Hello! I'm Dan
I'm a creative mind that turned a dream into a profession. I have a passion for journalism, and story telling, and realize as technology changes the way those stories are told will change as well. Everyday I use my best news judgment to find the information that people want and need, and share it with them in the most effective way possible.

My Work
10/16/2020 KIRO 7 Tonight
This is an example of our new longform show KIRO 7 tonight, it's focused on building off of the big news of the day and providing insight into those topics. Part of the challenge is finding ways to string stories together in a way that flows and makes sense, and still budget time properly that we can pivot and adjust for breaking news.

4/27/2019 Downtown Crane Collapse
This is an example of how I can produce wall to wall breaking news on the fly. in 2019 a crane collapsed off the top of the new Google office in Seattle's South Lake union neighborhood. We found out about it about 30 minutes before we went on air. In that time we were able to get chopper 7 in the air, and get crews in place to handle the coverage

8/12/2018 Horizon Air Crash
This was a sight that captured the attention of the entire region. A Horizon Airplane stole right from the Tarmac at Sea-Tac Airport. A Baggage worker named Richard "Bebo" Russell had been working on the plane, then he hopped in the cockpit and took off on a joyride. That ride came to a tragic end when both Russell and the Pland Crashed on Ketron Island. The next day we had team coverage looking into who Russell was and how something like this could have happened.

3/29/17 Drive For The Title Gonzaga Final Four
Getting a chance to see Gonzaga play in the Final Four was something many people in our community never thought would ever happen. So this year when they finally won in the Elite 8 we knew we had to go big for their run at a National Championship. Everyday I was in charge of a half hour Gonzaga special and had to coordinate with our crews down in Arizona to make sure it all ran smoothly.

9/13/17 The Freeman High School Shooting
This was the story that no one in our newsroom thought we would ever have to cover. It's a day I'll never forget, and a day that posed a lot of ethical questions in our newsroom. By our 11 newscast we were finally getting some details as to what happened, who was hurt and who was being called a hero.
